If you're considering moving to New York City, this book will be genuinely useful. Dobkin's unabashed pro-NYC bias is both charming and limiting. With a hand wave, he dismisses every place else on Earth and the upsides of growing up in a less demanding city. Still, I wish I'd read it when I was 20.
Clever, insightful and very humorous guide to surviving and thriving in NY. Author does a great job of tackling both existential and mundane topics in a creative and compelling way. Very engaging and readable!
I will add more to this, but it's obvious that this writer does not venture out of Manhattan/hip parts of BK or associate with the working class.
Dobkin knows his stuff. He's been cranking out great columns for along time for Gothamist and its nice to see that take classy book form. Probably useful for those moving to the City and pleasant reading to those who inhabit our lovely boroughs.
