I don't think I've ever written a negative review before, but considering how expensive the Kindle version of this book is, it shouldn't be anything short of perfect.First, a quirk: the Table of Contents is half-functional, half empty. For a book that advocates absolute perfection in how work is presented to agents, I think that it should follow its own advice. Also, that makes it really hard to go back to a specific part of the very long list of agencies, so that you have to scroll through the entire thing each time.But, more importantly, I used the book to find the agents that might be relevant to me, and was quite disappointed to see, on the agency websites, that some of them are no longer there. Had I purchased a 2017 or 2018 Guide, that would make sense. But it doesn't in a 2019 Guide that costs 27.67$.To be clear, this book is an invaluable resource to navigate the world of literary agencies. Just make sure you triple-check agent one on the agency website, because you can't fully rely on the information that's given to you here.

The guide is nicely organized.Since the agents we submit to, have to be of the relevant genre, division into genres is very handy.Some of those new to the query process would find a few guidelines in the beginning of the book.I particularly liked the section dedicated to newly discovered authors and their point of view, alongside that of the agents.Another interesting explanation was about how to pitch on Twitter. Everybody knows social networks are supposed to be good for promotion, but I personally had no clue exactly how to go about it, especially on Twitter.The book saved me a lot of time. When an agency says directly in its listing "accepts most new clients through recommendations from others," it became eventually clear that they wouldn't be making a lot of exceptions, so I could move on.The main disadvantage of the guide is of course that there were very few agencies added since the ones last year.That most agencies double, triple, quadriple in various genres, and so you don't truly get a fresh perspective of a new agency.Some of the other things that the book can be considered comforting for, is of psychological nature, that even us, hard trained veterans need from time to time.How despite the seeming uniformity, agents could actually want different things from one another. Some want you to be personal, some want you to be professional, and everybody would assume that their way is the only obvious way in the world, just like your favorite composition teacher.So make sure to see on the website directly if the requirements or agents are the same. Some requirements even vary from agent to agent within the same agency.I must say, the book inspired me to take things less personally, to do things my way, not perfectly but to my satisfaction, and to keep submitting.I just wouldn't buy it every year, if the information remains essentially the same.Otherwise, worth the money.Hapy hunting, guys.
