Think arrogance, or totally out of touch. I ran out to buy the book, thinking it would provide me with some interesting ideas. A piece of furniture, art, or kitchen design, perhaps, that would work for many of us. But it's not what I found. Sure, some of the homes are exquisite, and in beautiful settings. After all, don't you have a place on Cape Breton Island or a chateau in the Loire Valley? Is this really The Way We Live Now?To be fair, there are a few homes that are relatively simple, but most of the book is devoted to something that has nothing to do with the way we live. For me, it isn't interesting. The Home Section of the Times is gone. It's from an era that has passed. The book is from that same era. It's just total out of touch.
This book is just ok.As an avid reader of the new york Times, I'm familiar with the former Home section that came in Thursday's edition. It no longer is part of the paper but the selection of homes, photos, etc. were exquisite. Although it's totally subjective, this compilation of homes didn't live up to the standard I had come to know. I wouldn't recommend and I would like a prorate
I use to look forward to reading the Thursday NYT Home page in the Arts and Design section. I was truly disappointed when the paper decided to discontinue this wonderful look into contemporary architectural design. It's great that there is a small collection of some of these wonderful spaces. It would be great if this publication could influence the return of the Home section to the New York Times newspaper. We can only hope. Thanks!
