This book pares it down to the bare bones; it's great for review while studying for school exams, it's phenomenal for reviewing path prior to USMLE, and it will be helpful in the future when reviewing path that one doesn't encounter everyday. I can imagine no other way of fitting so much information into so many pages, and so clearly. While this is not meant to be a primary text for learning the material, it is worth its weight in gold in reviewing material that has already been learned in dense physiology books and path books such as Robbins.Additionally, for me, this type of review also helps in explaining to patients the why, how, and what of their condition as it reviews the logical flow of the condition (i.e., "here's where smoking all of those cigarettes really hurts you!"), pared down from pages of dense text: while I'm not going to show the actual book to the patient or use the med terminology, it's helpful for a 30-second review of why things happen, and what is essential to include in patient education, especially for those conditions that I do not encounter on a regular basis.This is one of the few books from my med school library with which I will never part.
I'm using this book for a MSN (nurse practitioner) pathophysiology course, and it's great! Common disorders are "mapped" in such a fashion as to make it convenient to understand the exact, straightforward mechanisms involved in a disease process. What typically takes several pages in a conventional pathophysiology text to explain about a disorder (e.g., DIC, hyperthyroidism, complement cascade, hypersensitivity reactions, etc.) is nicely depicted (i.e., mapped) on one page, which makes the format excellent for reviewing concepts and preparing for exams. The material in this book is not "watered down" either; the material is technical and the reader should have a solid understanding of normal physiology. (This book should be used in conjunction with other pathophysiology books.) I would not recommended this text for undergraduate students; however, it is a needed resource (and great investment) for graduate level work (NP programs) and definitely for medical students. You won't be disappointed, and the price is right too!
The concept behind this book is exactly what I had been searching for. Everything is formatted in an algorithmic "map" for a wide variety of diseae processes. For the topics covered, the level of detail is largely sufficient. However, I wish more entities were included, such as a section devoted to surgical diseaes. I hope the author/publisher branch out and make this into a book series.
Great product, used in college often. Easy to understand. Has a good list of common disease processes.
Just ok. I'm working on my masters degree as a nurse practitioner and haven't found this very useful.
