In true Penny Dreadful style this story quickly moves from one improbable event to another. Very clunky start, but easily becomes the over the top hyperbole beloved by penny dreadful readers. I particularly enjoyed the double twist in the end.
Loved it! The book flows so well, you don't want to put it down. Fascinating storyline. Loved the ending! This author's books get better and better!

Silas' story is a cautionary tale to be careful what you wish for, cause you just might get it and it won't be everything you thought it was. Silas has grown up being bullied both from his mother, his boss and people in town. And he's tired of being pushed around, wanting something better out of his life. Enter a fine-dressed man with a cigar and swagger. After making a deal with the devil, Silas gets to wield a gun that slows time, so that he will never lose a challenge. Finally, he thinks he can turn the tides on all the bullies in his life. But the consequences are bound to catch up to him-- setting out to be a hero that saves others from bullies, he walks a fine line between hero and villain.This was a pretty cool anti-hero story. What I really enjoyed was the consequences to Silas and the twist at the end! You won't want to miss it!
I've read many of RJ's books and am impressed by each one. Deal With the Devil is no different.Silas, hating himself and despairing of ever earning respect makes a deal, a deal that will get him what he wants. When a mysterious man grants him the ability to be the best gunfighter in the West, Silas finally thinks he has everything he wants in life. That is until a beautiful reporter comes to town, setting off a chain of events that leads to a final confrontation with another similarly gifted gunfighter.RJ does an excellent job of seeting the scene and portraying the characters in a realistic and tragic fashion. Silas in particular is shown to be a character with deep flaws, yet a character that regrets his decision, and tries to turn his back on the life that he had chosen. Yet, once you've made a deal with the devil, he doesn't let you out of it.
The story was absolutely predictable and the writing was rough. If someone were to tell me this was professionally edited I wouldn’t believe it for all the typos and grammatical errors. It was written mostly in past tense but had some present tense mixed in, that even a family member as editor could have caught. The main character was flat. I only finished it because I wanted to see that I was right about the ending, and because it was short. This author has potential, but needs to practice his craft.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I usually don’t care for devilish stories, but had a hard time putting it down!
I read this whole book in one sitting. I just couldn’t put it down! I love RJ Hendrick’s writing style. This was a great addition to the Frank Vito books.
